Trust & Safety

How Preened works, in plain terms — including what we do and don't check.

Preened is a place to find independent beauty professionals and book them directly. We want you to feel confident — so here's exactly what our badges and reviews mean, and where the responsibility sits. We'd rather be honest about our limits than imply checks we don't do.

What the “Verified” badge means

A blue Verified tick is earned from real activity on Preened. A provider gets it once they have: a clear profile photo, served 10+ clients, at least 3 returning clients, a rating of 4.0★ or higher from 5+ reviews, and recent activity. It's a track-record signal — proof that real clients keep coming back.

What it does NOT mean

The Verified tick is not an identity check, a criminal-background check, or a check of qualifications, licences or insurance. Preened does not vet providers or supervise the work. Providers are independent businesses — when they join, they confirm they hold whatever qualifications, permits and insurance their service requires (see the Provider Terms). Please use your own judgement, read reviews, and message a provider before booking if you're unsure.

How reviews work

Every rating comes from a real, completed appointment — the review link is sent to the client after their booking is marked done, one review per booking, and providers can't review themselves. We don't invent reviews or ratings, ever. That's the whole point: the numbers you see are earned.

Safety on home visits

For mobile appointments, Preened offers a free safety check-in: a provider can have a trusted contact alerted if they don't check out safely after a visit. Safety features are free for everyone and will never sit behind a paywall.

Your money and your data

Preened takes 0% commission — you pay your provider directly, and we never hold or touch that payment. Providers own their own client relationships. We handle your booking details only to make the booking work; see our Privacy notice.

If something goes wrong

If you have a concern about a provider or an appointment, contact the provider first where you can, and email us at privacy@preened.co.za so we can look into it. Serious safety concerns should always also go to the relevant local authorities.
